PRIMARY PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
The Electronic Publishing Intern uses a variety of software on PC and Macintosh platforms to composite text, numerical data, photographs, charts, and other visual graphic elements. The Intern will also preflight a variety of publication-ready materials. This material includes, but is not limited to, shareholder reports, letters, mail merges, fund profiles, key facts, compliance filings, and presentations, etc. The Intern collaborates with other Electronic Publishing associates and is responsible for the production, quality, and timeliness of projects, as well as adhering to internal procedures.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Follows Electronic Publishing procedures to assist in the creation of documents and projects, using Microsoft Word, Microsoft PowerPoint, QuarkXpress, Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop.
- Collaborates with Electronic Publishing associates, including supervisors, workflow coordinators, proofreaders, and subject matter experts to meet customer expectations and deadlines.
- Follows all procedures for time tracking using the Electronic Publishing database to assure the compilation of accurate metrics, reporting, and billing by department management.
- Follows all network procedures for document storage and file maintenance to keep servers organized and up-to-date.
- Provides a quality check of projects in a production department using established procedures and proofreading symbols.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Graphic Design, Marketing or some Production related major highly preferred
- Ability to create and update QuarkXpress, Microsoft Word, WordPerfect, Microsoft PowerPoint, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe In Design, and Adobe Photoshop documents
- Knowledge of graphics formats, including TIF, EPS, JPEG, and GIF
- Knowledge of page layout formats, master pages, and style sheets
- Understanding of printing process for b/w and 4/c process printing
- Ability to make decisions and problem solve when preparing files for output and document layout
- Knowledge of Adobe Acrobat and creating PDFs
- Ability to follow inside and outside designer’s instructions/concepts when formatting documents, based on EP procedures
- Ability to navigate through multi-page documents in a page layout program
- Ability to multi-task and work effectively in a deadline-oriented environment
- Full-time student required
- 3.0 GPA or higher required
